As a former software engineer with a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science, I was not satisfied by the "take x for y, it is natural" paradigm which has filled the internet. I wanted solid evidence not only for the effectiveness of remedies but also its safety. Enter Vintage Remedies. I began taking classes at Vintage Remedies in 2009, completing Family Herbalist, Holistic Wellness, Aromatic Medicine, Skin Care Development, and Pharmacology of Food over the next six years. In 2015, I attended Franklin Institute of Wellness, a state-accredited post-secondary school, for Certified Aromatherapy. During the summer of 2016, I completed the Diploma of Dietary Supplement Science, also through Franklin Institute of Wellness. Both schools (VR & FIW) advocate an evidence-based approach to wellness.
Currently, I am enrolled at Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine in both the Immersion class and the Foraging class. These courses will expand my working knowledge of the plants from which we derive our medicines. Gardening and foraging are skills which are much needed and underutilized in the world of herbal medicine.
My health philosophy is based on holism and the precautionary principle. Holistic wellness is concerned with the whole person, not just a symptom. The precautionary principle guides my wellness philosophy in that the least invasive, least potential for harm methods are employed to build health. Real foods nutrition, safe household cleaning products, whole product skin care, herbs, and essential oils are all part of a vibrant, healthy lifestyle.
